Project Specifications
Lugano was developed around a clear objective: create an inland tanker that performs efficiently today while remaining adaptable to future operational and propulsion requirements. The vessel combines practical ship design, hybrid propulsion and build-ready engineering within one integrated project.
The propulsion concept uses two Cat C32 main engines together with two Cat C18 generator sets and electric drive support. This configuration gives the vessel flexibility in how power is delivered, while reducing dependence on the main engines during operating profiles where full conventional propulsion is not required.
Designed primarily around operations in the Antwerp–Rotterdam–Amsterdam region, Lugano reflects V-Shipping’s approach of matching vessel design and propulsion to the actual operating profile rather than applying one standard technical solution to every project.

A vessel developed around its real operating profile, cargo requirements and long-term use.

Diesel and electric propulsion combined to provide operational flexibility and redundancy.

Ship design, propulsion, systems and construction logic developed as one coordinated project.

Technical choices made to keep future propulsion and fuel transition options open.
V-Shipping was responsible for the development of Lugano as both designer and builder, connecting vessel concept, engineering decisions, shipbuilding execution and final delivery within one project approach.
The project required more than designing a 135-metre inland tanker. Vessel dimensions, cargo requirements, propulsion strategy, machinery arrangement and construction decisions had to work together around the vessel’s intended operating profile and long-term reliability.
Lugano demonstrates V-Shipping’s design-to-build philosophy: technical decisions are evaluated not only on paper, but in relation to construction, operation, maintenance and the future adaptability of the completed vessel.
V-Shipping designs, builds and delivers high-performance vessel projects with practical maritime expertise, technical clarity and long-term reliability.
