Odyssee was developed as a 110-metre Type C tanker combining hybrid propulsion with the operational flexibility required for inland and sea-ready service. The vessel was engineered around a compact platform in which propulsion, cargo systems and shipbuilding requirements had to work together as one coordinated technical solution.
The hybrid propulsion arrangement adds electric drive capability alongside conventional power, giving the vessel greater flexibility across different operating conditions. Integrating this machinery required careful coordination between propulsion equipment, onboard systems, available technical space and the vessel’s overall operating profile.
Built at Den Breejen and delivered in 2020, Odyssee reflects V-Shipping’s design-to-build approach: technical choices are evaluated not only for performance on paper, but for how they affect construction, operation, maintenance and long-term vessel reliability.

V-SHIPPING’S ROLE IN THE ODYSSEE PROJECT
V-Shipping was responsible for the development of Odyssee as designer and builder, connecting vessel concept, hybrid propulsion integration, engineering, shipbuilding execution and final delivery within one coordinated project approach.
The project required the vessel’s 110-metre platform, hybrid propulsion arrangement, heated cargo requirements and sea-ready operating profile to be developed as one integrated technical solution. Propulsion equipment, onboard systems, machinery space and construction decisions had to remain aligned throughout the project.
Odyssee demonstrates V-Shipping’s design-to-build philosophy: technical decisions are assessed not only for performance and efficiency, but also for buildability, maintenance, operational reliability and the long-term use of the completed vessel.
